De Messenger App van Facebook is een gemakkelijke en gratis manier om in contact te blijven met je vrienden. Jammer dat de gebruikersvoorwaarden een stuk meer van je vragen dan je waarschijnlijk denkt.
Voordat je berichten kunt sturen naar één van de tig mensen die de app inmiddels gedownload hebben, accepteer je eerst dat jouw gesprekken opgeslagen mogen worden. De Huffington Post plukte onderstaande zinnen letterlijk uit de gebruikersovereenkomst die je accepteert voordat je aan de slag gaat met Messenger.
- Allows the app to change the state of network connectivity.
- Allows the app to call phone numbers without your intervention. This may result in unexpected charges or calls. Malicious apps may cost you money by making calls without your confirmation.
- Allows the app to send SMS messages. This may result in unexpected charges. Malicious apps may cost you money by sending messages without your confirmation.
- Allows the app to record audio with microphone. This permission allows the app to record audio at any time without your confirmation.
- Allows the app to take pictures and videos with the camera. This permission allows the app to use the camera at any time without your confirmation.
- Allows the app to read you phone’s call log, including data about incoming and outgoing calls. This permission allows apps to save your call log data, and malicious apps may share call log data without your knowledge.
- Allows the app to read data about your contacts stored on your phone, including the frequency with which you’ve called, emailed, or communicated in other ways with specific individuals.
- Allows the app to read personal profile information stored on your device, such as your name and contact information. This means the app can identify you and may send your profile information to others.
- Allows the app to access the phone features of the device. This permission allows the app to determine the phone number and device IDs, whether a call is active, and the remote number connected by a call.
- Allows the app to get a list of accounts known by the phone. This may include any accounts created by applications you have installed.
Dit bewijst maar weer dat geen enkele app echt gratis is. Jouw persoonlijke informatie is genoeg waard om er een applicatie gratis voor aan te bieden. Adverteerders kunnen op deze manier immers gepersonaliseerde reclame sturen naar de gebruiker.
Verplicht
Onlangs werd de Messenger-app verplicht voor mensen die via hun smartphone wilden chatten met Facebookvrienden. Eerder kon je ook met de algemene Facebook-app berichten naar elkaar versturen, maar sinds een paar weken word je na iedere melding van een nieuw chatbericht automatisch doorgestuurd naar de App Store, totdat je de Messenger-app dus gedownload hebt. Is het dan misschien toch tijd dat we die gebruikersvoorwaarden eens wat beter gaan lezen?
UPDATE: de app krijgt maar 1 ster in de appstore en gebruikersreviews zijn niet mals.

zolang iedereen dit gebruikt om met iedereen uit zijn vriendenkring te chatten hebben we geen andere keuze om te veranderen
@Jantje_555: echt wel. Sommige roms, zoals bijvoorbeeld de Miui-rom (Google maar), bieden je de mogelijkheid tot het uitzetten van permissies, individueel per app in te stellen. En ik begreep dat Google deze functionaliteit zelf ook in de komende major release van Android wil inbouwen.
@RRRobert: Je kunt ook alle Android ROM’s voorzien van een uitgebreide permissie beheer. Allereerst moet je een Android toestel hebben. *no shit*
Ten tweede moet je je ROM rooten (als dit nog niet het geval was). Vervolgens Installeer je Xposed Framework. En vanuit de Xposed installer app installeer je XPrivacy. En tadaa, je kunt nu alle apps volledig beheren qua permissies! 😉
@AutomotiveDesigner: Thnx. Ik miste dit al in mijn laatste paar toestellen. Mijn eerste android was de G1 van Google. Daar kon je na installatie alle permissies gewoon aanpassen, maar dat was opeens verdwenen.
