Wie zegt dat senioren niet aan de bak komen? De 83-jarige Buzz Aldrin heeft een baantje weten te strikken bij SXC (Space Expedition Corporation), het ruimtevaartbedrijf van Michiel Mol.
Buzz Lightye.. Aldrin was na Neil Amstrong de tweede man op de maan op 21 juli 1969. Nu wordt hij opgenomen in de raad van advies bij SXC. Hij zal volgens het op Curaçao gevestigde bedrijf ‘een actieve rol’ gaan spelen bij de voorbereidingen van de eerste commerciële ruimtelucht, die gepland staat voor eind 2014. (Je weet wel, zo’n dampkringtrip die Virgin Galactic ook aanbiedt.)
In een verklaring zegt de hoogbejaarde astronaut:
‘Having had the privilege of serving my country both in the US Air Force and during the Gemini 12 and Apollo 11 missions, I feel that there is nothing more thrilling than Space and all the possibilities that it offers us. For a long time it has been my personal mission through my ShareSpace Foundation to share the wonders of Space with people of all ages and to foster affordable Space travel opportunities for everybody. SXC, together with XCOR Aerospace, who designed and built the Lynx spacecraft and will perform the space flights, aims to facilitate Space flight experiences, expand human exploration and advance Space science education. They are a great team and I am very supportive of their vision to make space flight available to all.’
