Of is het iemand die doet alsof hij Satoshi Nakamoto is?
Nakamoto is de geheimzinnige bedenker van Bitcoin, maar niemand weet 100 procent zeker wie hij is en waar hij vandaan komt. Dat betekent ook meteen dat iedereen kan claimen dat hij of zij Nakamoto is. Op nakamotofamilyfoundation.org is te lezen dat Nakamoto aan een biografie werkt, waarin hij uit de doeken doet hoe Bitcoin precies ontstaan is.
De volgende aankondiging is te vinden op de website:
“Announcing the first excerpt to a literary work consisting of two parts. The excerpt is provided. I wanted to include it as a brief glimpse of history. Even for those that can’t read the full book, I wanted to make this available to everyone. A short story if you will, with some of the most brought up questions and answers. I wanted the people and the facts to be known. Or as much of it. I’m still saving most for the books, the best parts hopefully.”
In een kort uittreksel van de biografie doet Nakamoto een aantal interessante onthullingen, bijvoorbeeld hoe hij bij de naam Satoshi Nakamoto kwam. Verder legt hij bijvoorbeeld uit hoe hij bij het maximale aantal van 21 miljoen Bitcoins kwam.
“I wanted the most common name, which I knew no one outside of Japan had any recollection that Satoshi Nakamoto, was the equivalent of ‘John Smith’. Why 21 million? The truth is, it was an educated guess. The math worked out, or as close to it as I had wanted it to. Before settling on 21 million however, I had considered making 100 BTC as the reward, and 42—the answer to life, the universe, and everything. But afraid that others would consider my reference to Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy a quip and at the expense of not being taken seriously, I changed it to 21 million.”
De grote vraag is nu dus: is dit Nakamoto of niet. Er zijn meerdere signalen die erop wijzen dat we te maken hebben met een grappenmaker. Nakamoto staat bijvoorbeeld bekend om zijn perfecte grammatica en in het uittreksel zijn meerdere fouten te vinden. Daarnaast zouden bepaalde verhalen in chronologisch opzicht niet kloppen. Verder levert de auteur geen enkel bewijs voor het feit dat hij Nakamoto is, terwijl dat toch niet zo heel moeilijk zou moeten zijn.
