Take-Two Interactive is boos op de Britse omroep, omdat er in hun ogen onrechtmatig gebruik wordt gemaakt van de naam van Grand Theft Auto.
De BBC werkt al een tijdje aan Game Changer, een speelfilm gebaseerd op het conflict tussen Rockstar Games-baas Sam Houser en Jack Thompson, advocaat en fel tegenstander van de GTA-games. Daniel Radcliffe en Bill Paxton spelen de hoofdrollen in de film, waarvoor de opnames op 20 april zijn gestart. Het is de bedoeling dat Game Changer in het najaar op tv te zien is, maar daar wil Take-Two dus een stokje voor steken.
De aanklacht die zij hebben neergelegd bij de Britse rechter luidt volgens IGN als volgt:
While holders of the trademarks referenced in the film title and its promotion, Rockstar Games has had no involvement with this project. Our goal is to ensure that our trademarks are not misused in the BBC’s pursuit of an unofficial depiction of purported events related to Rockstar Games. We have attempted multiple times to resolve this matter with the BBC without any meaningful resolution. It is our obligation to protect our intellectual property and unfortunately in this case litigation was necessary.
