Het lijkt erop alsof ze bij Microsoft niets goeds kunnen zeggen (of de media misschien niets goeds wil horen?) als het gaat over de Xbox One. Nu is het chef Xbox product planning Albert Penello die in de verdedigingsmodus schiet.
Tijdens een interview had Penello de hardwarespecificaties van aartsrivaal Playstation 4 afgedaan als nietszeggend en wel met de volgende bewoordingen:
The problem is that Sony decided to go out and publish a bunch of numbers, which are in some ways meaningless because this isn’t like 1990, when it was 16-bit versus 32-bit. […] I feel like our games and experiences are going to be every bit as good, if not better, technically – on top of all the magic we’re going to add with the instant switching and the power of the cloud.
Daar schijnen weer wat gevoelige mensen over gevallen te zijn, waardoor Penello zich onlangs geroepen voelde om zijn uitspraken te nuanceren.
I’m not diminishing Sony’s performance claims and I wasn’t trying to be arrogant or dismissive. What I was trying to say is – I’m not Sony’s engineering team. So I can’t comment on what they have published as specs. I know what our teams are doing, and I know how they thought about architecting the system. The guys who are building these machines (on both sides) are unbelievably talented and experts in their field. Nobody knows the specifics of how the machines are architected or if there may be bottlenecks in one system or accelerators in another that change the impact of the published specs.
Het lijkt er op dat iedereen die bij Microsoft ook maar iets met de Xbox One te maken heeft op eieren loopt. Bang om ook maar iets te zeggen dat verkeerd kan worden uitgelegd. Microsoft’s Creative Director Adam Orth werd eerder al de laan uitgestuurd na een aantal verkeerde tweets. Ook de (toevallig?) onlangs vertrokken Xbox baas Don Mattrick, zal niet terugkijken op een lekker soepele introductie en warme ontvangst van de One.
